Fun Friday: Goldie Blox

Posted on January 25, 2013 by

Have you heard about Goldie Blox yet? It is an awesome story of a female engineer who created a toy/book combo for girls that helps them develop their engineering, spacial, literacy, and problem-solving skills. You must check it out! I’ve preordered a set for my two girls already! If you know an elementary school-aged girl, this is a perfect gift for her!

Fun Friday: How to Break Up with Your Imaginary Girlfriend

Posted on January 18, 2013 by

Happy Friday, Feronians!

The truths of the Manti Te’o story will reveal themselves in due time. In the meantime, here’s your step-by-step guide for how to break up with your imaginary girlfriend.* wikiHow really does tell you how “to do anything!”

*Since I originally wrote this post, new details of the Te’o hoax have emerged. I’ve learned that there’s something called “catfishing,” which is when someone pretends to be someone they are not by using Facebook or other social media to intentionally deceive someone else. It is one thing to dream up an imaginary girlfriend on your own (what the wikiHow article is about) but another to be intentionally deceived and hurt by someone else’s illusion. Love carefully, my friends. There are some really mean people out there.

Fun Friday: Are You Stuffed Yet?

Posted on December 28, 2012 by

I don’t know about all of you, but I am STUFFED! I’ve eaten like its my last meal for a good week now (good thing for stretchy pants). This cartoon perfectly depicts the time between Thanksgiving and New Year’s in my house. Needless to say, I’ll be spending a considerable amount of time at the gym in the New Year to repair some of the damage I’ve done – delicious, delicious damage.

Gift Guide: Your 20s-30s Feminist Friends Going Through A Life Change

Posted on December 11, 2012 by

The 20s and 30s period of your life are full of big changes. It’s the time you get that great job you’ve always wanted; buy a nice home; consider (and maybe find) the one; even settle down and (perhaps) decide to have children.

So, what do you get that person for the holidays? Well, here’s some suggestions.

Smart Women Finish Rich, by David Bach

I’m passionate about women and finance – not enough women are financially-savvy, to their detriment. (I’m sure you’ll see a post about it…someday.) In the meantime, consider giving this book to your friend – male or female – to encourage their knowledge and, well, freedom.

Marriage, a History, by Stephanie Coontz

Feronians, you’re a smart bunch. You probably know that marriage has been largely a financial transaction throughout history – but how did we throw it over for love? Coontz, a historian on the family and marriage, writes a compelling book on how love conquered marriage.

‘I’m a Mrs’ Kit

I wrote a post last week about how I plan to change my name after getting married next year, and I fully plan to use one of these kits. (By the way – these are helpful for anyone who wants to change their name, male, female, or transitioning.) Do you really want to spend a day going from office to office on a name-change quest? I think not.

Fun Friday: Giving Thanks…to You!

Posted on November 23, 2012 by

Happy Friday, Feronians! We hope the American readers among you had a great Thanksgiving. Have a fun and safe weekend.

Obviously, Thanksgiving makes us think about the things we are grateful for. And I’d be lying if I didn’t say that we are incredibly thankful for you, our readers and supporters around the world. Today, we’re sharing a video of the victories Planned Parenthood had in 2011; we’re so thankful for those we’ve had since as well!
